Stonecross Manor Hotel was originally an orphanage, bequeathed to Kendal in 1857 by the Squiress of Levens, Mrs Mary Howard. Catherine's Restaurant is named after Catherine Parr, the sixth of Henry VIII's wives who was born and spent the early part of her life in Kendal Castle. The hotel is privately owned and situated on the edge of Kendal, one of South Lakeland's most important market towns.

Travelling to Kendal from the North or South, on the M6 take exit 36, onto the A590, signposted to South Lakes and Kendal. Continue on the A591 to Windermere and Kendal. Carry on along the dual carriageway A591 - A6 South Kendal. You will pass a BP Petrol Station on the left, take the next left, signposted South Kendal A6. Follow this road and as you approach the hill Stonecross Manor Hotel is set back on the left hand side. If you go over the hill you have gone too far.
